• PLO: 14,000 Palestinian fighters evacuated to stop Israeli bombing, despite many being driven out, guerrillas could easily hide in Lebanon’s crowded refugee camps
• Hezbollah: Fiercely anti-Israeli organisation, based in south Lebanon, took its recruits from many angry Lebanese Muslims
