Need for management

• Sandbanks is a depositional landform, consisting of unconsolidated sediment, in the county of Dorset along England’s Southern coast - it is a 4km long spit
• Sandbanks has a large number of high value commercial property including Sandbanks hotel, and Haven hotel, which provide significant employment opportunities, and generate spending in the local economy
• Sandbanks consists of extremely high priced residential buildings (4th most expensive in the world per square metre) with houses costing excess of £10 million
• Climate change means that sea levels are predicted to rise by 0.6m in the next 100 years which will flood properties
• If no management strategies are implemented, £18 million worth of damage will be done in the next 20 years
• At the end of the peninsula, there’s the entrance to Poole Harbour, which is used by cross-channel ferries as well as commercial ships carrying goods - stimulates economic growth
