  • In 1912, Alfred Wegener presented his case for the theory of continental drift
  • He proposed that 250 million years ago, a large supercontinent, called ’Pangea’ existed
  • This supercontinent then split up, continued to drift, until they reached their present locations - 7 continents
  • There was clear geological and fossile evidence for Wegener‘s theory but as there was limited understanding of the mechanical process which could have moved the continent, the scientific community remained sceptical about his theory
