How does distillation work?
It works because the parts of the mixture have different boiling points.
The mixture is heated and the substance with the lowest boiling point will evaporate first , this substance then enters the condenser where it is cooled and condensed and is collected in a beaker
The pure liquid collected is called the distillate.
Fractional Distillation can be used to separate a mixture or two more miscible (mixable) liquids.
The fractionating column improves separation of the mixture , it separates different components as they have different boiling points , where each different substance is called a fraction
What is simple distillation?
A process of purifying a liquid compound by heating it into a vapour that is then condensed back into a liquid, is a separation technique to separate a soluble solute from a solvent
Distillation is a separation technique used to separate a soluble solute from a solvent
