General facts

• Over 50% of the DRC is rainforest, which means there is a high concentration of the population living in the South and West
• Very rich in raw materials such as diamonds, copper, and tin, all of which are used to manufacture goods
• The east is a zone of conflict, primarily due to the fact that the central government is located on the west border of the DRC making it difficult for them to monitor the situation in the east
• Agriculture is the major sector which makes up 21.6% of their GDP and employs 70% of the population
• The GDP per capital is extremely low at $1100, with 62% living below the poverty line - extremely poor wealth
• Whilst the UN implemented a voting system, many believed the vote was rigged since Felix, the president, won but 30% of voting machines didn’t work, 65% of the polling stations opened late, and he was appointed due to political dynasty as his father was opposition leader and prime minister
