    1. reasons for birth rate declining since 1900
    Children have become an economic liability
    Since the late 19th century, children began to be seen as economic liabilities by being dependent on parents and don't produce anything. Previously, children were productive, working alongside parents and contributing to the family income. This changed because of:
    •   Laws - banned child labour and required children to attend school
    • changes in norms changing how parents believe kids should be raised
