  • Afghanaid is a British humanitarian and development organisation who respond to humanitarian emergencies, strengthen the rights of women and children, and help communities from a bottom-up level
  • In 2023, Afghanaid provided 496,000 civilians with humanitarian relief, including cash assistance and emergency food
  • Afghanaid helped 66,000households, and 1.2 million farmers in total, to adapt to changing climate by providing them protection and educational support on their farms allowing them to adopt sustainable agriculture practices
  • Afganaid supported 447,000 women in their economic engagement, inclusion in local governance, and full participation in community life
  • Afghanaid also established hundreds of schools, which has consequently helped 300,000 children
  • The main issue with their efforts was the Taliban who came back into power in 2021; the Taliban banned Afghan women from working with international NGOs, such as Afghanaid, which impacted the delivery of programs focused on women’s empowerment, affecting over 100,000 women
  • The resurgence of the Taliban meant that there was a rise of 20% in the civilians who needed humanitarian aid since 2021; Afganaid could not provide humanitarian aid to this surged population, which reduced their effectiveness
