    as education is female dominated boys are not exposed to a lot of male role models which encourage and inspire them to achieve. boys may feel left out in education and sekk validation from their male peers instead of their teachers

    Francis (2001) found that boys are more concerned than girls about being labelled as swots. this is because in w/c subculture masculinity is equated to being tough and doing manual work so school work is viewed as effeminate and inferior.
