Energy stores

• Chemical energy is energy stored inside food, fuel and batteries. The energy is transferred during chemical reactions.
• Kinetic energy is the energy stored inside a moving object.
• Gravitational potential energy (GPE) is energy stored in a object because of it's position.
• Gravitational potential energy (GPE) is energy stored in a object because of it's position.
• Elastic potential energy (EPE) is energy stored inside a springy object when it is stretched.
• Thermal energy is energy stored inside a substance because of it's temperature. Hotter= more thermal energy. Colder= less thermal energy.
• The Conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed.
• There are four main energy transfer pathways:

  Mechanical

  Radiation

  Electrical

  Heating
• Mechanical energy pathway is a force moving an object through a distance.
• Electrical energy pathway is charges moving due to a potential difference.
• Temperature (heating) energy pathway is due to temperature difference caused either electrically or by chemical reactions.
• Radiation energy pathway is energy transferred by a wave, like infrared from the sun.
