• Scale of Human rights abuses during WW2 encouraged the declaration of Human Rights 1948.

  The UN sees human rights as necessary for achieving other aims in social and economic development.
• Declaration is non binding - states that break it can't be punished

  Some states also abstained from signing
• Aims to promote and encourage respect for human rights for all, identify monitor and research Human Rights abusers and promote providing of help for governments to deal with human rights.
• UNHRC stands for United Nations Human Rights Commission.
