  • Resolution 242 aimed to achieve permanent peace in the region.
    • Palestinians rejected it because it did not give them back land that they had before the formation of Israel, or their homeland promised after the 1948 conflict.
    • UNRWA had to open 10 more camps for Palestinian refugees
  • Syria rejected it:
    • August 1967, Arab states agreed no peace, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations.
    • Israel wanted to negotiate separately with Egypt, Jordan and Syria.
  • Nasser (Egypt) said he would only accept Resolution 242 if Israel withdrew from the territories it took.
    • Israel refused = no impact
    • PLO continued to attack Israel further, war in 1973.
