Criticism against Marxism

• Underestimates Gender → Feminists argue that capitalism underestimates the importance of gender inequalities, the family primarily serves the interest of Capitalism, in extension men
• Ignores the benefit → Functionalist argue that there are very real benefits the family provides for its member
• Ignores variety of family structures → Assumes that the nuclear family is dominant when there is evidently a variety of family structures
• Focuses on class → Marxism doesn’t look at influence of gender and/or ethnicity
• Too Critical and no freewill → Marxists view suggests we have a lack of freewill that ignores the capacity of the human to create their own world
