  • continuity editing = a style that creates a seamless and logical flow from shot to shot, maintaining spatial and temporal coherence
  • cut = a sudden transition from one technique to another, the most basic editing technique
  • cross cutting = editing between 2 simultaneous actions occuring in different locations, often to build suspense
  • jump cut = a transition between shots that disrupts continuity, creating a jarring effect
  • match cut = a cut that maintains a visual or thematic connection between shots, often used for smooth transitions
  • montage = a series of short shots edited together to condense time, convey a concept, or create a mood
  • shot-reverse-shot = a technique commonly used in dialogue scenes, showing each speaker from the other's perspective
  • split screen = a technique showing multiple shots simultaneously within the frame, often used to depict simultaneous action
  • wipe = a type of transition where one shot "wipes" across the screen, replacing the previous shot
