Lighting terms

• backlighting = placing a light source behind the subject, often creating a silhouette or a halo effect
• fill light = a secondary light that softens shadows created by the key light, balancing contrast
• hard light = a type of light that creates harsh shadows, emphasising texture and detail, often used in drama and horror
• soft light = diffused lighting that minimizes shadows and has a flattering effect, often used in romantic or lighter scenes
• three-point-lighting = a lighting setup using three sources: key light, fill light, and backlight, to control shadows and depth
