  • Negative Feedback:
    The mechanisms to bring about a change (the response) are switched off/ inhibited as a result of that change.
  • Positive Feedback:
    This occurs when the feedback causes corrective measure to remain turned on resulting in the system to deviate even further from the set point.
  • Positive Feedback, Hypothermia:
    • Core temperature decrease
    • Enzyme rates slow
    • Respiration rate slows
    • Less heat from respiration
  • Positive Feedback, Child Birth:
    • Baby pushes against the cervix
    • Impulses sent to pituitary gland
    • Pituitary gland produces oxytocin
    • Oxytocin causes uterus to contract
