Molotov’s wife

• Molotov was the most loyal Stalinist of them all but Stalin didn’t like his wife ( friend of his dead wife )

  • Polina was jewish
  • Irritated - Israeli ambassador was given too warm a welcome which was suspicious
• Stalin asked for her to be expelled from the party
• December 1948 vote happens :

  • Everyone voted for her and Molotov abstained
• Molotov and Polina are divorced on Stalins instructions and Polina was arrested - 5 years in prison - Beria kept her alive as he knew Stalin was crumbling and wanted Molotov on his side
• January 1949 - Apologises for not voting her out in a letter
• Molotov was the most loyal Stalinist yet his wife wasn‘t trusted
