• Prison creates safety in society
• Justice can be done - retribution
• Closure for the victim
• Should be a consequence for crime
• Might not always work/act as a deterrent

• Prison might be a better option for some, such as homeless people
• Prisons are underfunded/short staffed so not meeting aims - not reforming
• Drugs/inappropriate resources smuggled into prison - doesn't meet aims
