Case Study - Bastoy Prison

• Bastoy Prison is on an island that is off the coast of Norway. It is a prison that doesn't have much security, it houses over 110 'prisoners', but it only has 69 staff members. Any type of offender can be accepted and they are allowed to cycle around the island and fish in the surrounding waters.
• When the 'prisoners' were interviewed a lot of them wanted to start families and enter employment when they were released
• In 2015 their reoffending rates were 16% where as the European average was roughly 70%
