Evaluation

• Positive/what is useful:

  • There is a link between gender and class 
  • It builds on control theory
  • It uses practical research such as in-depth unstructured interviews
• Negative:

  • It is a small and unrepresentative study
  • It assumes that all women rely on men
  • Assumes that when women are able to receive rewards that they turn to crime
• Positives for methods:

  • The in-depth qualitative provides high validity
  • The sample has a good range so it is somewhat representative
• Negatives for methods:

  • There is only a small number of women which makes it unrepresentative and invalid
  • The views in the research could be false or altered (invalid)
  • By only interviewing working class women only one side of the argument is included in this study as there is no point of view from the middle class
