  • Compliance is a superficial type of conformity as conforming occurs only externally not internally to the group: short term conformity
  • Identification is a deeper level of conformity as an individuals views change internally and externally when surround by a certain group: attempt to gain approval and to conform to expectations of the social role. Shorter term conformity as views are not present when not surrounded by the group.
  • Internalisation is the deepest level of conformity as it involves accepting and agreeing with a group externally and internally when you are around them or not: conformity over a long period of time. Generally involved renouncing previous beliefs
