  • what two things must terrestrial plants be adapted to?
    Reducing the loss of water
replacing the water that is lost
  • what adaptations do most terrestrial plants have to reduce their water loss?
A waxy cuticle to reduce water loss via evaporation in via the epidermis.
The stomata are found on the under-surface of the leaves to reduce the evaporation due to direct heating from the sun. Most of the stomata are also closed at night, when there is no light for photosynthesis.
Decideuous plants lose their leaves in the winter, when the ground may be frozen- making water less available- and when temperatures may be too low for photosynthesis.
