Communities, Abiotic and Biotic factors

Cards (9)

  • Population tells us the number of organisms of a species in a particular area.
  • An ecosystem:
The interaction between a community and the surrounding environment.
  • A community:
All the organisms living in an ecosytsem
  • A population is the number of organisms of one species living in a particular area.
  • Biodiversity measures how many different habitat species there are.
  • More biodiversity means more food options. If one runs out, organisms can survive off another.
  • Factors that affect communities can either be Biotic (living) or Abiotic (non living)
  • Abiotic factors that affect communities: 1. Light intensity 2. Temperature 3. Precipitation 4. Wind speed 5. Soil pH 6. Moisture 7. Oxegyn levels
  • Biotic factors that affect communities:
    • availability of other organisms for food.
    • the arrival of new predators close predator An animal that hunts, kills and eats other animals for food: in balanced ecosystems, predators and prey.
    • new diseases
    • one species outcompeting another
