4.1.1.2 animal and plant cells

Cards (13)

  • what are the organelles found in both animal and plant cells?
nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria and ribosomes
  • what does the nucleus do?
Controls the cell and contains genetic material.
  • what does the cytoplasm do?
where most of the chemical reactions happen
  • what does the cell membrane do?
Controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell.
  • what does the mitochondria do?
where aerobic respiration occurs- releasing energy for the cell
  • what do ribosomes do?
where protein synthesis happens - making all proteins needed in the cell
  • what extra organelles do plant and algal cells have?
cell wall, chloroplasts and a permanent vacuole
  • what does the cell wall do?
strengthens the cell and gives it support
  • what is the cell wall made out of?
    Cellulose
  • what do chloroplasts do?
contain chlorophyll which absorbs light for photosynthesis
  • what is the permanent vacuole?
a space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap
  • what does the permanent vacuole do?
keep the cell rigid to support the plant
  • are plant or animal cells bigger?
    plant cells are bigger
