Multi-store model

  • Supporting evidence
From brain scans- shows that different areas of the brain are active during different types of memories.
  • Case study
Milner (1956)- Studied H.M and found that he was not able to form new LTM's but after testing using a serial digit span it was found that his STM was still intact.
  • Contradictory evidence
Craik and Watkins (1973)- found that a depth of learning lead to LTM memory rather than repetition
  • Not full explanation
Doesn't account for all types of memories, for example flashlight memories that are recalled without rehearsal.
  • Oversimplified
The working memory model shows that the STM is not a unitary store. There is also evidence that there are different types of LTM.
