Frombrainscans- shows that different areas of the brain are active during different types of memories.
Case study
Milner (1956)- Studied H.M and found that he was not able to form new LTM's but after testing using a serial digit span it was found that his STM was still intact.
Contradictory evidence
Craik and Watkins (1973)- found that a depth of learning lead to LTM memory rather than repetition
Not full explanation
Doesn't account for all types of memories, for example flashlight memories that are recalled without rehearsal.
Oversimplified
The working memory model shows that the STM is not a unitary store. There is also evidence that there are differenttypes of LTM.
