  • Supporting evidence
March et al (2007)-found that after 36 both 81% of the CBT group and 81% of the antidepressant group improved.
  • However point of March et al's study
86% of the CBT + antidepressant group had significantly improved- a combination of both treatments may be more effective.
  • Cost effective
CBT has long term benefits as the techniques the patients learn can be used continually to stop symptoms returning.
  • Doesn’t address irrational environments
Ignores possible negative environments in the client’s life. This can demotivate the people to change their circumstances.
  • Not appropriate for everyone
CBT requires a lot of motivation and some people find it hard, or refuse, to change their ways of thinking. It doesn’t work as well for severe depression.
