Relative Deprivation means how deprived someone feels in relation to others, the main people who experience this is the working class and become a criminal to gain status
Marginalisation means groups who are marginalised lack both clear goals and organisations to represent their interest so resort to violence
Subculture means a group sees a collective solution to relative deprivation so will still subscribe to mainstream goals but can't achieve them legally so do street crimes to close the relative deprivation gap
Young argues we are living in 'late modernity' and the growing wealth gap and rise of individualism have created cultural inclusion (ie material goods) but economic exclusion
Left Realists consider the solution to crime is greater police involvement and accountability for a multi-agency approach
Examples of Government Policy on left realist solutions is ASBOs and New Deal which provides training/subsided employment to young people to stop acts of offending
