Id-ul-Adha is the festival of sacrifice, when Muslims sacrifice animals to show their gratitude to Allah at the end of the last Islamic month.
What are the origins of Id-ul-Adha?
It honours Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son Ishmael on God’s command. However, as Ibrahim was about to kill his son, God prevented it and gave him a ram to sacrifice instead.
Id-ul-Adha is celebrated with sacrificing an animal, visiting family and friends and enjoying festive meals. It begins with prayers in the Mosque where the Imam preaches a sermon about sacrifice.
Id-ul-Adha occurs on the tenth day of Dhul-Hijjah, which is the last month in the Islamic calendar.
