Rump Parliament

• The Rump Parliament was created by Pride's Purge December 1648
• Pride’s Purge of 1648 ordered by General Council of Army
• Neither Fairfax or Cromwell involved
• Therefore although not a military dictatorship, it was dependent on the army for its position. This compromised its authority and its legitimacy.
• Not a united body
• Numbers reduced to 211 from 470.
• But only 70 had been actively involved in organising trial and only 59 signed death warrant
