• Powerful - "the great slime kings gathered there for vengence"

  • shows the change in power, as at the start of the poem he had control over nature when he collected to tadpoles but now they have the power to have vengeance for what he did
  • implying nature can't be controlled by anyone
  •  verb ‘gathered’ shows that he thinks that all the frogs have came together to get their revenge on him
• Fascination - "bubbles gargled delicately"

  • this shows that something which most people find disgusting, he enjoys it
  • also implies that he can find the beauty in things that many people wouldn’t be able to do
  • but this could link to the fact that he's a child, therefore he is more appreciative of things and is more fascinated by them too
  • adverb "delicately" implies how gentle nature was to him
• Circle of Life - "How many mammy frog laid hundreds of little eggs and this was frogspawn"

  • shows how the mothers give new life
  • noun ‘mammy’ is how a child would speak, so could imply that the writer is slipping into his childhood self
  •  in the context his teacher is sheltering him from the truth, to keep his innocence
• Fear - "if is dipped my hand the spawn would clutch it"

  • shows that he now fears nature and what the frogs would do to him after everything he's done (taking the frogspawn)
  • the frogs want to take revenge although it wasn't fully his fault as he was just a child and didn't fully understand
  • verb 'clutch' shows that they are desperate for revenge, but could also suggest that he feels like they'll never let him go
