• kaiser abdicates and leaves germany

• there was mutiny in the army and navy
• many still felt germany could have won, and felt betrayed by the politicians who agreed to end the war
• reparations cost £6.6 billion over 66 years
• in 1922, germany refused to pay so france and belgium sent 60,000 soldiers into the ruhr to take control of every factory, mine and railway
• germany started printing large amounts of money to pay the striking workers in 1923
• printing more money led to shopkeepers increasing their prices
• hyperinflation resulted in small businesses collapsing, elderly couldnt survive on their pensions, savings became worthless and people who owed debts found it easy to pay off
