Importance of the world wide church

• What is the primary mission of the Church?

  Proclaim that Jesus came so that the relationship between God and people can be restored (reconcilliation)
• Christians believe that when Jesus died on the cross and rose again, he saved human beings from sin and through his grace made it possible for humankind to be forgiven.
• "While we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!"
• What is persecution?

  Hostility and ill treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs
• What does the Corrymeela Community do?

  • Promote harmony and reconcilliation
  • People gather for a time of peace-building through the healing of social, religious and political divisions
  • Those who attend are given the opportunity to talk and listen to each other and explore ways of moving from violence and distrust to working together
• The world council of churches has a program to try and bring about reconciliation between Christians of different denominations and members of other faiths.
