  • The absorbtion addiction model
    -Individuals with psycho-social deficits are more susceptible to forming PSR’s.
    -Those with a weak sense of personal identity or poor relationships in real life are more likely to to focus their attention on a celebrity. The PSR provides a sense of identity and satisfaction for the individual.
    -This results in complete psychological involvement in the celebrity as they become increasingly absorbed, preoccupied and all consumed with the celebrity’s life.
  • -The individual must go to greater lengths to maintain these feelings. Thoughts become more delusional and behaviours become more extreme and obsessive.
    -At the extreme end of the relationship takes on addictive properties as the relationship becomes all consuming.
    -They engage in behaviours that help maintain the sense of fulfilment and intensity of the relationship.
