• What is a weakness (unethical)

  -experiments are seen as unnecessarily cruel

  -have limited value in attempting to understand the effects of deprivation on human infants

  -e.g female monkeys became so neurotic that they smashed their infants face into the floor and rubbed back and forth

  -shows the emotional harm caused by harlow
• What is another weakness

  -whilst humans do share a large proportion of their DNA with monkeys and apes there is a 1.2% difference between humans and chimps and a 6% difference between humans and some monkeys

  -Therefore we might not be able to generalise the findings from animal research to explain human behaviour
