• Inadequate waste disposal can be linked to air and water pollution, both of which have a negative impact on human health. It is also becoming increasingly expensive to deal with waste as space for landfill is running out and treatment of waste through incineration is costly.
• Methane is emitted when biodegradable waste (food and paper waste) decomposed anaerobically. Refuse sites will produce 8 to 10% of the global polluting greenhouse emissions by 2025.
