Chi-squared test

Cards (4)

  • The chi-squared test
    • Used when handling frequency data
    • Looks at differences between frequencies between groups/categories
    • Used to determine whether these differences are significantly different from what you would expect
    • Total number of observations must be large
    • Each of the observations must be independent of each other
  • The null hypothesis should state that there is no significant difference between the observed and expected results
  • If the test statistic > critical value, the difference is significant so the null hypothesis is rejected
  • If the test statistic < critical value, the difference is not significant so the null hypothesis is accepted
