The chi-squared test
Used when handling
frequency
data
Looks at differences between
frequencies
between groups/categories
Used to determine whether these differences are
significantly different
from what you would expect
Total number of observations must be
large
Each of the observations must be
independent
of each other
The null hypothesis should state that there is no
significant difference
between the
observed
and
expected
results
If the test statistic > critical value, the difference is significant so the null hypothesis is
rejected
If the test statistic < critical value, the difference is not significant so the null hypothesis is
accepted
