  • Large sample size
-meta analysis of 32 studies and over 2,000 infants.
-More representative and reduces the effect of anonymous results so overall conclusions about inter and intra cultural variations increases generalisability.
-However, limited samples from some cultures. Countries may have sub-cultures which sample doesn't include so not representative of whole culture.
  • Standardised
-accurately compare attachment behaviours across different cultures without extraneous variables.
  • Ethnocentric
-Study was done in America with American infants. Behavioural categories created through American culture so may not be correct wen comparing against other cultures.
  • Low Internal validity of the strange situation
-Research into cultural variation uses strange situation to classify infant attachment.
-Strange situation measures infant temperament, familiarity with strangers, relationship to mother.
