Ethnicity and Crime

• The Lammy Report found black people are 3% of the general population but 12% of the prison population
• Black Caribbean arrest rate is 22.7
• White Arrest rate is 9.4
• Asian arrest rate is 11.2
• Chinese arrest rate is 2.8
• The British Crime Survey found that out of 90% of reports of crime were a victim was white at least one of the offenders were also white
• Bowling and Phillips says white victims overidentify black people when reporting crime
• Graham and Bowling say white and black offending rates are similar at 44% but Bangladeshi was 13%
• Sharp and Budd say black people are more likely to have contact with the police, have been in court and were convicted
