Van ijzendoorn and kroonenberg conducted a meta-analysiscross culturally to investigate attachment types across different cultures they analysed data from 32 studies in 8 different countries
Procedure
Conducted a meta-analysis of other strange situation studies to investigate the proportion of insecure avoidant , secure and insecure resistant attachments across cultures such as GermanyBritainHollandSwedenIsraelJapan and china
Results
Overall, the most prevalent attachment type across cultures was secure attachment. However, Germany had the highest percentage of insecure-avoidant children, with 35%, while Israel had the highest percentage of insecure-resistant children, with 29%.
Conclusion
This suggests that there are differences in the patterns of attachment types both across and within cultures, with intra-cultural differences in attachment types often being greater than inter-cultural ones.
