Theory

• One of the post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals is to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable and the city as an entity is viewed as a key factor in building a more sustainable world.
• The idea of sustainability was first brought to the wider public awareness in the 1987 Brundtland Report entitled 'Our Common Future' by the UN World Commission on Environment and Development.
