  • “O, that this too too solid flesh would melt/ Thaw and resolve itself into a dew!”
  • “O, what a rogue peasant slave am I!”
  • He professes to be amazed by the players ability to engage emotionally with the story he is telling, even though it is only an act. Hamlet is prevented from his acting on his own situation as he lacks knowledge about it, and he rebukes himself for doing nothing, even though he has real reasons for revenge.
  • In these quotes, Hamlet’s disturbing need to end his life provide the idea that he will stop himself from traversing forward and persuing his ideals in the further proceedings of the play, suggesting that his character is unable to develop in a fairly interesting way of self-prevention. He is significant in creating a scene of loathe and sadness through his poor mental capacity, and I believe that Hamlet’s inner conflict does not add to his character at this point in the play.
