  • Cardiovascular endurance
    Definition- : the ability to exercise for a sustained period of time
    Test- Multistage fitness test or 12 minute cooper run
    Sporting examples- events that are of long duration such as marathon running or cross country
  • Muscular endurance
    Definition- the ability to retract a specific muscle or muscle group for an extended period of time
    Tests- sit-up or press-up test
    Sporting example- rowing or long distance swimming
  • Flexibility
    Definition- the full range of movement around a joint
    test- sit and reach test
    Sporting example- performing the splits in gymnastics or dance
  • Maximum Strength
    definition- the maximum force a muscle can generate against a resistance
    test- handgrip dynamometer test
    Sport example- weight lifting, or scrum in rugby
  • Agility
    Definition- The ability to change direction at speed
    Test- Illinois run
    Sporting example- Dodging a player in netball
  • Balance
    definition- the ability to maintain equilibrium when stationary or moving
    test- Stork stand
    Sporting example- walking across a beam in gymnastics, surfing
  • Reaction time
    Definition- the time taken to respond to a stimulus
    test- ruler drop test
    Sporting example- Batting a ball in a cricket match, or the starting gun in a 100m sprint
  • Muscular power
    Definition- the ability to exert force in one explosive act
    Test- Standing vertical/broad jump
    Sports example- Triple/long/high jump in athletics
  • Co-ordination
    Definition- the ability to perform complex movements smoothly and efficiently
    test- alternate hand wall toss
    sporting example- goalkeeper saving a penalty in football
  • Speed
    Definition- the ability to move the body, or a body part, as quickly as possible
    Test- 30-50m sprint test
    Sporting example- 100m sprint race in athletics
  • Why do we fitness test?
    Fitness testing is used to measure a person's physical abilities, identify strengths and weaknesses, and help set training goals. It allows progress to be tracked and ensures training is effective and appropriate.
