    • October 1992: No fly zones declared over Bosnia by the UN
      • NATO jet fighters - allegedly were given permission to shoot down unauthorised aircraft (with UN approval)
    • Often the UN did not give permission/didn't want to give permission for NATO to shoot down unauthorised aircraft as they were afraid of angering Serbs.
      This led to Serbian attacks on peacekeepers + humanitarian workers
      • No fly zones were ineffective
