    Bosnian-Serbs invaded the 'Safe Area' of Srebrenica.
    • Took 30 UN peacekeepers hostage + threatened to attack a UN compound where thousands of refugees were sheltered.
    Bosnian-Serb commander, Ratko Mladic
    • Agreed to allow Srebrenica's Muslim population to leave safely
    (women and children sent out first)
    Men and boys separated, however 7,000 executed.
    • Many evacuating women were also pulled off buses and raped
  • The UN had essentially failed to protect civilians in Srebrenica.
    (weakness/failure for the UN)
