• Because of preaching Islam more openly, more people started accepting Islam.
• The Quraysh felt threatened and so started harassing and persecuting poor Muslims and they opposed the prophet.

• After many failed attempts to Change the faith of the Muslims, the Quraysh tried to adopt a policy of conciliation to stop the prophet from preaching Islam by send Utbah Bin Rabiah to bribe him with offers of great wealth and beautiful women and kingship of Makkah but the prophet declined and recited some verses of the Qur'an with which Utbah was impressed a d told the Quraysh to leave him alone.
• The Quraysh then proposed to the prophet to worship their gods and in return they would worship his god, to which Allah replied in Surah Al-Kafirun : "You have your religion and I have my Religion".
• The Quraysh then decided to approach Abu Talib and told him to withdraw his protection or stop the prophet from preaching or the Quraysh would resort to violence, but when Abu Talib appealed to the prophet, the prophet told him that he could not stop until God fulfills his mission, and so Abu Talib let the prophet preach and did not remove his protection.
