Topic 10.2.2 Reversible reactions in industry

Cards (2)

  • Changing the conditions of a reaction can shift the position of the equilibrium to favour the production of either the products or the reactants. However, increasing the yield of a product may also reduce the rate of reaction.
  • In industrial processes, when a factor increases the product but decreases the rate of reaction, a compromise must be made. Therefore, reaction conditions are carefully selected to give a relatively good product yield as well as a relatively fast rate of reaction.
