The Second Period of the Compilation

• • This period was very important
  • the books of hadiths were being compiled under state supervision and under the instructions of the caliph(Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (ra)
• • This period was after the demise of the prophet (saw)
  • Bashir bin Nuhaik who was the student of Hazrat Abu Hurairah(HAH) compiled the hadiths narrated by HAH.
  • Oban who was the student of Hazrat Anas compiled the hadiths narrated by Anas(ra)
  • Urwa bin Zubair & Nafey wrote the hadith narrated by Hazrat Ayesha.
  • hadiths narrated by Hazrat Abbas were written by his students
  • These compilations in which Ahadiths were collected by tracing them to each companion is known as MUSNAD.
  • e:g-musnad of abu bakr,musnad of Aysha etc.
  • famous name in these serious are " Musnad Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal"
• • the SECOND CATEGORY of compilation was by grouping the Ahadith into chapters and sub-chapters according to their theme.
  • Best known compilation of this type is " Al-Muwta" by Imam Malik and "Al-musannaf" of Imam Abd-Al-Razzaq.
• • In the second century A.H, writing of Ahadith was formally taken up.
  • Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (who is believed to be the fifth caliph) set up a committee of great and famous scholars in 99 A.H to write the Ahadith.
  • The famous members of the committee were Imam Muhammad bin Muslim, Imam Shu’bi, Imam Makhool, Imam Zuhari
  • The famous books compiled during this time were ‘Kitabul Aasaar’ by Imam Abu Hanifa, ‘Sunan-e-Abul Walid’ and ‘Jam-e-Sufyan Suri’.
