  He promoted the settlement of Texas. A big city there is named after him.

  This is a nickname for a candidate that comes out of nowhere to win. Polk was this in the election of 1844.

  Campaign slogan of Polk that used a latitude line that they wished to acquire territory from Great Britain in Oregon

  Pierce's Plan to secretly try to buy Cuba from Spain or "we will take it by force" ('Merica). Of course, the North got mad when they found out about it, because they thought it was a plot to get another slave state.
