High Tides,Low Tide, neap tide and spring tide

Cards (11)

  • When the gravitational pull is at its highest point a high tide happens.
  • When the gravitational pull is at its lowest point a low tide happens
  • When the one side of the earth is pulled by the moon during high tide it sandwiches the water on the earth making the opposite side of the earth become high tide. Same goes with Low tide
  • because the earth is rotating it causes us to experience tides all day
  • Spring tides happen when the earth, moon and sun are aligned(Their gravitational force strengthen each other), and the tidal range between high and low tide is at its peak, it happens twice a month, during the new and full moon phases when spring tides happen we see lower then average low tides and higher then average high tides.
  • Neap tides happen a few week later after spring tides, these tides happen when the moon and sun are at 90 degrees to the earths orbit, and the tidal range between high and low tide is at its minimum, these occur when the moon is in its first and last quarter phase, because of the position of the moon and son their gravitational force on the waters of earth basically cancel each other out, this causes smaller differences between high and low tides.
  • Tides are the daily or twice daily rise and fall of the oceans.
  • Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun on the ocean.
  • Tides movements are based on the positioning of the moon and sun(These moon and sun don't change in their patterns) in correlation to the Earth this makes Tides predictable and reliable.
  • The moon has more influence on the tides then the sun because its closer to the earth.
  • The tides would not occur if the earth and moon were not attracted to each other.
