• Stem cells = cells that can express all of there genes and can differentiate into any cell type.
• stem cells divide by the process of mitosis
• as stem cells divide more and more they become more specialised
• as stem cells become more specialised they change the number and type of organelles found within it.
• fully specialised stem cells can no longer divide by mitosis
• eventually though more divisions and becoming more specialised it will become suited to its role in the developed organism.
• Cell differentiation = the process by which a cell changes to become specialised for its function
• unspecialised cell = a cell that can carry out a variety of different functions, but not a specific one
