Cards (5)

  • 1 - use a measuring cylinder to place 50cm cubed of hydrochloric acid into a conical flask. Attach this to a bung and delivery tube. put delivery tube in container with water
  • 2- place an upturned measuring cylinder also with water over delivery tube
  • 3 - add 3cm strip of magnesium to the hydrochloric acid and start a stop watch. The reaction produces hydrogen gas, which is trapped in the measuring cylinder.
  • 4- Every 10 seconds, measure volume of hydrogen gas produced in the measuring cylinder until no more hydrogen is given off. repeat experiment using different concentrations of hydrochloric acid
  • the greater the concentration, the faster the reaction takes place
